Why I play Golf, sometimes
A lot of people have a pretty general idea about golf as a sport, and about those who play it in particular. It’s a sport played by the rich, the douchebags and old people. Oh, and Tiger Woods, but he’s making trillions with it, so that’s fine.
Well, not really. I started off with golf two years ago when I thought it’d be worth it to do an introductory course and see if it was something that would get me out of my office, back into nature a bit more. It totally did.
Why is it cool?
It helps you to train your focus again. If you don’t manage to concentrate, you’ll fail with golf, big time. And with every round of golf there’s an interesting chat going on - and that’s the beast, still staying focused between all the thinking and talking. I particularly like how you can feel that your skills are improving, slowly, very slowly, but noticably. It takes a lot of practice and fine-tuning, this is what I like about it. It sort of kicks your ass out into the nature for at least half a day and makes sure you get your fair share of walking, 2-3 hours straight.
Why am I not a rich CEO douchebag when I play golf?
Well, I shelled out a mere 70 euros for my golf bag and clubs, that’s it. I am not a member in any club, despite the restrictions that you actually would need to be one to play just about anywhere. I like to talk myself into playing a “free test round”, or just play a small training course close to where I live for 8 euros a day, which is dead cheap. So, no yearly fees, no nothing. Where do I get my golf-balls from? I found them. On the range, in the lakes, in the woods, everywhere, and lots of them. I think I am the worst person to meet in a golf club, especially if you are the owner of it.
